THE WHOLE ARTIST
The Whole Artist
TIME: Every Other Saturday starting June 5, 8:00 - 10:30 AM
COST: Free (Suggested donation of $2 to help us cover costs)
Sometimes it can feel like our creative wells run dry, especially in difficult times. That is why it’s so important to be intentional about refreshing our sources of inspiration and ideas..
The Whole Artist Series events are designed around that intention, filling the creative well. Each event will be held at a unique Houston location, chosen for its artistic or natural beauty, where attendees will spend an hour filling up the well and writing followed by a time of sharing, either sharing writing generated during the experience, sharing about the experience itself, or just sharing in a cup of coffee and the community energy.

Glenwood Cemetery
TIME: Saturday, June 19, 8:00–10:30 a.m.
LOCATION: Glenwood Cemetery Historic Glenwood Cemetery, located at 2525 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007, was founded in 1871 and was planned as a garden cemetery in the manner of beautifully landscaped cemeteries in Europe. Its rolling hills have allowed for the creation of unique monuments, mausoleums, fountains, and winding pathways. Notable monuments include those of the Dunn and Priester families, victims of AIDS, and the sculpture known as the Angel of Grief. We’ll visit the cemetery from 8-9:30 a.m., and then meet up at nearby Urban Eats (3414 Washington Ave) to write and talk about our writing inspirations from the Cemetery. We recommend you bring a bottle of water and wear bug spray. Accessibility: The Cemetery has ample parking at the front entrance as well as wide paved paths throughout. Visitors can also park on the Cemetery’s roads as long as they allow enough space for another car to pass. There are no public restrooms available. |

Keith Weiss Park
TIME: Saturday, July 10, 8:00–10:30 a.m.
LOCATION: Keith Weiss Park This 499.46-acre park, located at 12300 Aldine-Westfield Road, Houston, TX, 77093, is a beautiful key to flood control for the Hall’s Bayou watershed. With almost two-thirds of the park left in its natural state, paths wind through native pine woods and then around flood control ponds sculpted and landscaped to look like natural elements. We will explore the woods and ponds from 8-9:30 and then find a shady place to write and talk about our writing inspirations from nature. We recommend you bring a bottle of water, sunscreen, a chair or blanket to sit on while writing, and wear bug spray. Accessibility: The park has paved roads and paths throughout. Public restrooms are available; however, they are porta potties. |
