Our 2022 Indiegogo campaign is live!

Help us find A Space for Writespace!
We lost our studio space at Sawyer Yards during the pandemic.
It's time to find a new one!

Writespace is a Houston grassroots literary arts nonprofit whose mission is to embrace and celebrate our city’s diversity by providing the type of high-quality training available through Master of Fine Arts creative writing programs at a fraction of the cost to writers of all genres, with a focus on providing programming for underserved communities and scholarships for low-income writers.

All donations made to Writespace are entirely tax-deductible.

Since Writespace was founded, we have delivered over 700 workshops and free events to more than 1500 writers per year. It's exciting each week to see writers grow in knowledge and confidence--and our greatest success is to see Writespace writers get their workshop stories and essays published in well-known publications! Our writers best describe how Writespace has supported their career and personal success:

  • I always felt like I was the odd person sticking out in groups, but when I started interacting with Writespace writers I realized, "These are my people." For one of the first times, my entire being feels accepted. There are not enough words, even for a writer, to fully express my gratitude.  - Writespace member, December 2017
  • When I met my instructor and realized how much I would learn, I felt my dead heart beating again. I can't wait to save up for another class. So, you see, Writespace has made me want to live.  - Workshop attendee, Feb. 2018
  • The workshops and panels were incredibly informative, entertaining, and interactive. The volunteers and Writespace staff were phenomenal. I was so impressed with the conference material, scheduling, and constant flow of helpful people never too busy to point us in the right direction or answer questions. It takes an army, and Writespace made it seem flawless! - Writefest participant, May 2018

Writespace seeks to offer writing courses that are very affordable. Thus, we set our registration fees far below the national average compared to other top-caliber writing centers. Houston still has emerging writers who cannot afford to enroll in our workshops, though. We seek to be inclusive and to serve those who cannot afford our programs. To fulfill this goal, we grant over one hundred workshop scholarships per year. Because we want all voices to be heard and transform more lives, Writespace hopes to make more scholarships available. Here is how you can help. Thank you in advance for supporting writers.
