Bassam Zahid
Bassam Zahid is an ER and ICU physician, writer, and aspiring polymath. He hails from New York City and fell in love with spoken word when he convinced his 10th grade class to attend Def Poetry Jam on Broadway. He often visited the Nyuorican Poet’s Café for inspiration, and that, among many other poetic influences (including Houston’s Write About Now), finally brought him to the Writespace community and this first performance.
Outside of medicine and poetry, Bassam is a current Writing Fellow at the McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics. He has also produced two podcasts: This Meharrian Life, which chronicled the stories of African-American physicians at Meharry Medical College, a historically black medical school in Nashville, TN and Doctor Hustle, where he interviews healthcare leaders, creatives, and entrepreneurs. He has written for a variety of blogs, designed and coded mobile and web apps, and even taught an undergraduate seminar at Stony Brook University called “The Examined Life: A Guide to Discovering Your Identity and Calling.” You can find a portfolio of his work at his website, www.bassamzahid.com or on Instagram @bassam.zahid.

Jamie Danielle
Jamie Danielle finally got to Houston in 2014 after a series of stays in other places that just don't compare. She makes her home near Braes Bayou with not nearly enough plants and very nearly too many fur babies - an overlarge Yorkie named Brutus, Toby the rescue who rescued her, and a tuxedo cat named Degas who makes sure she laughs every day. Too long ago now to mention the year, she graduated magna cum laude from the Barrett's Honors College at Arizona State University with a BA in English Linguistics because she wanted to be a writer and learning the language inside and out seemed a good idea.
She finally found the courage to call herself a writer after her first workshop with Writespace in 2015. She's been involved in one way or another ever since. A firm believer that writers need community, she highly recommends this one. 10 out of 10!
Jamie has been published in Houstonia, An Unexpected Journal, and The Anthology of Young American Poets.
