COVID 19 Update to January and February Workshops
Due to the surge of COVID-19 cases and fact that the Omicron variant is extremely contagious, all workshops have been moved back to virtual format. Writespace workshops will be offered via Zoom until it is safe to have in-person workshops again. The Submission Room has also been moved online via Zoom.
Zoom links have been sent to those who have already registered for any workshops or events. If you have not received an email with the Zoom link and you are registered for a workshop or event, please email jamie@writespacehouston.org to request your link.
Our Art in the AM event on January 15 at Eastern Glades and our January 29 Open Mic featuring Outspoken Bean will still be held as they are outdoor events. Masks will be required for attendance at both events.

We acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional ancestral lands of the Atakapa-Ishak People, the Akokisa, the Karankawa, and the Sana. We encourage you to learn about these nations, and to honor them by working to dismantle the systems of racial and cultural injustice and colonization present in our society.

As you know the Writespace board has taken time to evaluate the extent to which the pandemic has affected our operations. We thank you for your patience and continued support. In our reflection, we kept coming back to the same answer. We want to be here for you, Houston’s writing community. We need to be here for you.
We asked ourselves how. How can we function in a time where spaces must be virtual, a time where writers are weary and can’t bear to look at another Zoom workshop?
The answers came to us through our volunteers. A volunteer community with more passion and commitment than we knew. A volunteer community that was willing to jump in and support programming and events to keep Writespace moving forward for you. A volunteer community that inspired excitement and hope.
With the support of founder Elizabeth White Olsen, the board has transitioned to include longtime volunteers and members who will serve in a way that deepens the governing board’s connection to the Writespace community.
With the support of our volunteers and the Houston writing community, Writespace is ready to “Push Play” with new exciting programming and some old favorites. We are ready to present a programming schedule to inspire and excite as well as develop craft and help you publish your work.
Safety is a priority for Writespace so we will continue our online programming and ease into “in person” (socially distanced and masked) events as vaccinations continue and in accordance with CDC guidelines.
June 1st is the date.
All membership incentives will resume and current members will have their memberships extended by the two months that Writespace has paused. We are also working on additional member services which will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Online programming will resume and a limited schedule for our new “Write around Houston” socially distanced/masked write-ins and “The Whole Artist” sessions. We are also working to increase programming leading up to our Fall schedule and a 2022 Writefest.
We hope you will join us in our excitement to “Push Play” and embrace our hope for the best in the rest of 2021.
After all, you are Writespace.
Sincerely,
The Writespace Board of Directors
