THE WHOLE ARTIST
The Whole Artist
TIME: Third Saturday of every month. Start time may vary depending on event and time of year.
PRICE: Free for members, $10 for nonmembers. Become a member here.
Sometimes it can feel like our creative wells run dry, especially in difficult times. That is why it’s so important to be intentional about refreshing our sources of inspiration and ideas..
The Whole Artist Series events are designed around that intention, filling the creative well. Each event will be held at a unique Houston location, chosen for its artistic or natural beauty, where attendees will spend an hour filling up the well and writing followed by a time of sharing, either sharing writing generated during the experience, sharing about the experience itself, or just sharing in a cup of coffee and the community energy.

PRICE: Free. Become a member here. As an organization interested in supporting the whole artist, we are creating events for writers to explore other avenues of creativity and/or activities that inform writing in new and surprising ways. Our friends at Sowing Seeds Community Garden have made it possible for us to spend time working in a garden, hands in the dirt and sun on our faces. If you have ever been interested in how gardening can fill up your creative well or if you are a gardener who wants to explore how gardening and writing can inform each other, this event is for you. With our garden guide, Amanda Howard, we will explore the garden as a source of creative joy. Bring water, bugspray, and wear sun protection. Amanda Howard is a professional agriculturalist and writer living in Houston, Texas. In 2018 she completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Houston-Downtown. While attending this esteemed university Amanda studied botany, biology, creative writing, and poetry. In her private life she enjoys fermenting home-grown vegetables, cooking, quilting, killing her lawn, and writing in a variety of genres, including; poetry, short fiction, nonfiction, and gardening curriculum. Professionally, Amanda is an active member in the Houston urban gardening and farming movement. Inspiration is around every corner for Amanda; her work is influenced by the experiences she lives. Important aspects of her life include her partner, her prison pen pal, those witchy friends, vegetable garden, dogs, cats, numerous chickens, and the ducks. She can be found on IG @peachesandcrazy. Accessibility: Handicapped parking available. Garden has some accessible paths, however, most areas will be inaccessible to a wheelchair and may be difficult to navigate with a cane. |
