Layla Al-Bedawi is a trilingual native German with a background in language and writing instruction and freelance translation. Her time spent in the TESOL and English M.A. programs at WVU solidified the beautiful state of West Virginia as her spiritual home, but a desire for warmth and open water led her to Clear Lake. At Writespace, she fills the role of Events Coordinator and Festival Director of WRITEFEST, our annual festival for emerging writers. She also curates, edits, and contributes to the Writespace blog, and is one of the hosts of our Write-Ins. Layla's fiction frequently veers into magical realism, and is deeply influenced by her multicultural upbringing. Her work has been published in The Molotov Cocktail, Flash Fiction Magazine, and elsewhere, and is forthcoming in Crab Fat. She enjoys bookbinding, road trips, and cats.
